Project Director: Anne Dunkelberg, Texas Voice for Health Reform

Consumer Voices for Coverage Phase II is an extension of the Consumer Voices for Coverage national program funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. This new program provides resources to support local and state-based organizations that are well positioned to educate policy-makers and the public about the importance of reforming our health care system. This project aims to educate policymakers, opinion leaders, and the general public about the importance of comprehensive national health care reform that creates a cost-effective system of affordable, continuous, quality coverage. The specific goals of this project include undertaking and disseminating timely, credible, and accessible policy analysis about the coverage crisis and proposed solutions; designing and implementing communication strategies to build strong support throughout Texas for sound proposals; developing strategic alliances for reform with other stakeholders; and working with broad-based coalitions for national health care reform.

The Center for Public Policy Priorities worked to build a web presence through their new Texas Voices for Health Reform website and are working to build their social networking strategy through Facebook and Twitter. They recently held a state partners convening of over 35 diverse organizations (including Texas Medical Association and Health Care for All) to coordinate communication and strategy in Texas around national health reform.
