The numbers of uninsured are growing and the health impacts on individuals, families, and our nation continue to intensify at the same time. According to figures released by the Census Bureau last year, 47 million people were without any kind of health insurance in 2006.

Kaiser Family Foundation With some federal and state policy makers considering ways to encourage more people to purchase non-group, or individual, health care coverage, this new analysis examines how often people at different income levels buy such coverage when they do not have access to employer coverage or do not obtain public coverage. -

Progress Report on State Health Access Reform, Health Affairs Web Exclusive from Health Affairs, Web Exclusive Enactment of ambitious health reform laws in Massachusetts and Vermont in 2006 helped instigate a wave of state legislative activities to expand coverage to uninsured people. This report identifies 39 states that have enacted laws in at least one access category since 2006. At least 13 states have begun processes to enact comprehensive reforms to cover at least half of their uninsured residents. -
